GANAPATI TRIO
Millennial Indian Classical and Modern Vibes
GANAPATI is a musical project born in the early 2000s from guitarist Bernard Margarit’s passion for Indian musical traditions. This artistic journey took shape through pivotal encounters with tabla virtuoso Debashish Bramahchari and exceptional sitarist Joyeeta Sanyal.
Over the years, the group has grown through collaborations with many talented Indian artists and musicians such as Debojoyti Sanyal, Mosin Kawakhan, Udupa Giridhar, Labonee Mohanta, Rishab Prasanna, among others, becoming a true intercultural creative laboratory.
GANAPATI now performs as a trio led by Bernard Margarit, born from the fascinating meeting between India’s ancient musical traditions and contemporary Western soundscapes. Through original compositions, the group explores subtle dialogues between rhythm, texture, and culture—harmoniously blending traditional instruments like the sitar and tabla with guitars and modern arrangements.
For certain performances, the trio is enriched by the collaboration with Labonee Mohanta, an eminent Kathak dancer and disciple of the late master Pandit Chitresh Das. Her presence adds a choreographic dimension to GANAPATI's musical universe, creating a music-dance fusion that transcends traditional artistic boundaries.
Melody, virtuosity, and improvisation are the hallmarks of this trio, brimming with creative energy.
